If you have been in SEO for a while, you probably know there are just so many different types of SEO tools. Especially, you know exactly what I am talking about if you have done black hat SEO stuff.
I must admit, I dipped my toe in black/gray hat SEO a while back and have used a variety of automated SEO tools. One of the challenges I faced was to share the tools I had with my team. License for each software could cost more than $100 each and since we rotated tasks all the time, it made sense to find a way to share all the SEO tools we had.
At the time, I had an old laptop so I subscribed to a remote desktop service such as “Go to my PC” or “Logmein” and shared the login information with my team so everyone could use the SEO tools on that laptop computer. I kept it in the basement where it was nice and cold to keep the computer running.
This arrangement worked pretty well except a few times when the computer crashed (thanks to the unstable Windows operating system back then) while I was away from home and was not able to restart the computer for a few days.
Nowadays there are so many RDP and VPS services for SEO that it really makes my life much easier.
For those of us who are not super technical, RDP stands fro Remote Desk Protocol and VPS stand for Virtual Private Server.
The main difference between the two seems that RDP for SEO services not only give remote computer access but also provides pre-installed SEO tools on the platform, whereas VPS only gives you remote desktop access and you need to use your own SEO tools.
I personally prefer using VPS (I use Hostwinds) because some of the tools I use (such as Scrapebox) require proxies and I do not want to share my private proxies with someone else, so I am not sure how people deal with that using a shared RDP environment.
I must say using VPS for SEO has increased my SEO efforts many folds. If you are interested, I have a 50% discount code for hostwinds.com. Just type “DRM50” at the checkout and you will get the first month 50% off
